Advice & Support

Accessing Support at University

The Students' Union has an Advice Centre which can be found on the ground floor of the Students’ Union building on the Preston campus. We might physically be on the Preston campus, but we’re here to support all our students, regardless of where they study, and you can access our full service online.

The team can help all students with advice on a range of matters including; academic issues, welfare benefits, housing or financial issues which might be negatively impacting on your studies and wellbeing.

Our advisors are here to offer free advice in a professional but friendly, relaxed environment. We won’t judge you, we're here to help you as much as we can, regardless of your issues.

As we are independent from the University, we are able to represent you without any conflict of interest. All enquiries are dealt with the strictest confidence, which means that we do not disclose anything that you have told us unless you have given us permission to do so.

We’re zero tolerance when it comes to harassment and bullying, both online and in person. Find out more about the University’s Report and Support service here.

It’s easy to fall into the traps of student accommodation, with a risk of dodgy landlords, substandard facilities and unclear contracts. That’s why your VP Welfare Meg has written a guide for students who are looking at getting accommodation for the next academic year, as well as for students who have already got accommodation and need to know where to go and what to do when things go wrong.

Check out her guide here and learn how to avoid some of the most common accommodation mistakes!

Students are often a target of cybercrimes, with ‘make easy money’ schemes contributing to money laundering which funds child trafficking, drug smuggling and fraud. (see more). Make sure you don’t get involved in cybercrime.

Our Advice team can help you with any financial queries.

Your Students’ Union Advice Centre is a third-party reporting centre for hate crime. This means our advisors are trained to support you in reporting any hate crimes or incidents that happen to you or that you witness. This also includes any form of online harassment.

The University has a number of measures to help you feel safe on campus, including a dedicated in-house security team, CCTV, incident response, First aid and the SafeZone app.
