Futsal & Small Sided – Men

About us

Catering for Futsal, 5, 6 & 7-a-side Football for all abilities.

We formed in Summer 2021 to bring the sport of Futsal to students and give them the opportunity to play both recreationally and competitively in BUCS Leagues. The Club also has a 'Small Sided Football' section giving opportunities to play 5/6/7-a-side.

Sessions Outline

Futsal Training @ Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre

Tuesdays 1800-2000 for BUCS Squad only (Coached)

Futsal Recreational Session @ Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre

Thursdays 1600-1800 - The plan is for this to involve into a SU League.

Small-Sided @ UCLan Sports Arena

Mondays 6:00pm-8:00pm for Small-Sided (Members Only)

Membership Explained

Social Membership = £10 – Access to Small-Side Football activities and the SUL Futsal League.

BUCS Fee = £90 – All students selected for the BUCS Squad are required to pay a £90 fee. Whilst the University is paying a large amount of the cost associated to BUCS sport, from this year, students are required to pay a contribution. For context, a bus to take the team to the North-East is around £800.

Those who pay the £90 are eligible for the Small-Sided Activities.

If you are part of another BUCS Team (and have paid the fee) you are only required to pay £45.

Futsal

If you are unfamiliar with Futsal, check out the basic rules of the game here.

**Futsal is not like 5-a-side, it is a very technical and tactical sport. It is not a sport you can just turn up on the day and hope to be successful. Thus, attendance to training sessions is essential and students who have placements that will affect attendance cannot be taken on.**

After two seasons of narrowly missing out on Promotion from BUCS 4A, we are gearing up to go one step further this in 23/24. Trials will take place early in October for the BUCS Squad (keep an eye on our Instagram for sign-up).

Futsal squads are relatively small so we cannot take on large number of players. The coach will select players based on ability, attitude and character. In addition, players must pay their fees to be eligible to train and play. New players can be brought in if required.

Fixtures are played over a series of 'round-robin' style events across the academic year. Matchdays are usually Sundays. This season, there will be games played at UCLan, Liverpool John Moores, Huddersfield, Teesside and Sunderland. If you feel you cannot commit to this, then please do not attend trials.

12/11 - UCLan

28/02 - Liverpool JM

11/02 - Huddersfield

25/02 - Sunderland

(Not including Cup)

If you cannot commit to it or do not get selected, there is still the small-sided section or the Recreational Futsal sessions. To start, the rec sessions are free but we will be creating a SU League out of attendees. You must be a member to be put into a team. Also, if places in the BUCS squad become available, those who impress in the rec sessios may be invited to train with the squad.

UCLan Medics FC - We know that some student from the School of Medicine cannot make training due to their placements. For them, we recommend out friends at Medics FC.

Small Sided

In addition to Futsal we offer Small-Sided football. Sessions take place Monday evenings 1800-2000 at the UCLan Sports Arena. All Standard Members are eligible to attend. In the first few weeks of semester one we form 5-a-side teams & play weekly round-robins. We then progress onto a more traditional league format culminating in the ‘Playoffs’ where we crown the SU League Champions.

We also play friendlies and look to enter small-sided tournaments. At the end of the year, we enter a team into the annual ‘Varsity’ competition with against Edge Hill, which we won in 22/23!

Socials

Regardless of whether you are a BUCS Futsal, Rec Futsal and/or Small-Sided player we come together for our club socials.

Student Group Elections 2024

Every year our clubs and societies elect a new team of students to take their group into the new academic year. Being on a committee is a great way to become more involved with the community at UCLan, meet new friends and develop new and existing skills for your CV. Anyone can be on a committee, as long as you are a member of your club or society. Students that are elected onto a committee through this election will start their role on 1st August 2024 until 31st July 2025. Could you be the next leader of your club or society?

722 posts are up for election.

Nominations are now closed.

The polls open at 09:00 on Friday 19 April 2024 (in 2 hours and 26 minutes)
