What this idea aims to achieve
Introduce a calendar subscription feature that allows UCLan students to sync their academic timetables with their personal digital calendars such as Google or Apple calendar. This feature would also support regular automatic updates, reflecting any changes made to the timetable.
Students would no longer need to repeatedly log in to view their timetable, making access much more efficient. This would lead to improved productivity and reduced errors/confusion when reading their timetable.
Who it will affect
This will benefit students across campus, allowing for a seamless access to their timetables. Those with dynamic weekly timetables or busy personal lives such as students managing part-time jobs, placements would see the most benefit.
How this idea can be achieved
Given that UCLan use their own timetabling system, there are two ways this change can be implemented by the IT department.
1. Develop a custom feature that generates a secure Ical subscription link for each student's timetable.
2. Adopt a third-party timetabling system, such as CELCAT or Scientia, which includes a built-in calendar subscription.
