Your Big Ideas

Your Big Ideas

Do you have an Idea about how to make the Students’ Union, University or the wider community better for students?

Your Big Ideas are a great way to make meaningful change on campus. Submit your Idea online and share with your friends and course mates. If your Big Idea achieves 50 or more votes in favour after 28 days, it will be taken forward; either to an appropriate meeting such as Students’ Council or by meeting with the appropriate person(s) to help make your idea a reality. If a Big Idea gets approval at Students’ Council, it will become Students’ Union policy and we will work with you on making it happen!

To submit an Idea or vote on any of the current Big Ideas below, you must be logged in using your UCLan student login. Once logged in, the option to submit will appear and to vote, just click the thumbs up or down button - depending on your opinion!

Previous Big Ideas-turned reality have included free period provisions on campus, an extension to the academic calendar and free disability screening.

Anyone can submit a Big Idea. It’s an easy way to change the lives of students!

    Graduation gowns and diplomas

    Expired

Due to the cost of living crisis, this year has already been hard for many and because of that, I would like to suggest using our striking lecturers' unpaid wages to fund the graduation gowns for all final years. By funding them for all, it will relieve financial stress and it will mean no student will miss out on one of the key aspects of graduation day. Gowns are not essential, however, after studying for 3 or 4 years they are something everyone envisions themselves wearing and I think it will be a real shame for anyone to be deprived of this due to their current financial situations.

I would also like to suggest re-designing our diplomas. I cannot attach images to this page however if you get in contact with me I can show you exactly what I am about to explain. Our diploma is currently a piece of paper with the university logo and with our course and personal information on it. I would like to suggest displaying these diplomas in velvet books with the university logo branded on the outside. I think this would make the universities diplomas last longer and look a lot more professional. I received a year abroad completion certificate in this format and it looks amazing. After studying so hard for so many years I think a diploma like that would encapsulate all of our hard effort and determination for success.

5:44pm on 15 Mar 23 It currently feels somewhat anticlimactic to receive just a piece of paper to show our years of hard work towards our degrees, I know that in other countries (e.g. Korea) you get a lovely booklet style presentation of your certificate. I think this would be a great idea :)
