Your Big Ideas

Your Big Ideas

Do you have an Idea about how to make the Students’ Union, University or the wider community better for students?

Your Big Ideas are a great way to make meaningful change on campus. Submit your Idea online and share with your friends and course mates. If your Big Idea achieves 50 or more votes in favour after 28 days, it will be taken forward; either to an appropriate meeting such as Students’ Council or by meeting with the appropriate person(s) to help make your idea a reality. If a Big Idea gets approval at Students’ Council, it will become Students’ Union policy and we will work with you on making it happen!

To submit an Idea or vote on any of the current Big Ideas below, you must be logged in using your UCLan student login. Once logged in, the option to submit will appear and to vote, just click the thumbs up or down button - depending on your opinion!

Previous Big Ideas-turned reality have included free period provisions on campus, an extension to the academic calendar and free disability screening.

Anyone can submit a Big Idea. It’s an easy way to change the lives of students!

    Female/womens only gym space

    Expired

      Dear SU Bid Ideas,

i am emailing to request for the idea of a womens only gym room at the sir tom finney sports centre. Total fitness have a gym room at their gym which is for women-only, and it has many machines, mats, equipment, weights and more. I’ve looked into this however their membership is minimum £37 per month, which is way over the budget for us students.

I am aware there is a womens only football club, however i want to request for this womens only gym that will be available during the usual opening times and women can use this facility like using any other facility at the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre all year round.

I was wondering what if the UCLan gym can adopt this same idea, i feel so many women would benefit from this and feel more comfortable. Fitness should be comfortable so we can do more of it as it is so important to implement for a a healthy lifestyle.

The thing stopping lots of women from using the gym more often is the fact that the gym is mixed.

I would really appreciate if Sir tom finney sports centre could dedicate one of their rooms into a womens only gym.

This is what total fitness said about their womens only gym room: “ The ladies only area offers you a conscious free environment and is a great place to make friends and focus on achieving your health and fitness goals.”

I would really love if UCLan can adopt this Big Idea and allow us females to feel comfortable coming to the gym whenever we want and achieve our fitness goals!

I am aware a few previous members of staff had this same idea when I emailed them about this last summer, but have asked me to post it on Big Ideas the next time it's open! (which is now)
