If you feel there is an issue with the mark you have received, you can submit a First Stage Appeal within 10 working days of the Academic Board confirming your mark on MyUCLan.

If you are unsure if your grade has been confirmed by the academic board, speak to your Course Leader before submitting an appeal.

The Students’ Union Advice and Representation Centre provide professional, independent advice and support in terms of your grounds for appeal, how to present your case, what to include and what to expect in terms of the process.

A Grade Appeal must be based on one of the following;
  • That an Assessment Board has given insufficient weight to extenuating circumstances.
  • That the student’s academic performance has been adversely affected by illness or other factors which the student has for good reason been unable to make known to the Assessment Board.
  • That there has been a material administrative error at a stage of the examining process, or that some material irregularities have occurred.
  • That the assessment procedure and/or examinations have not been conducted in accordance with the approved regulations.

Questioning the judgement of the marker is not a valid reason for appeal, this includes thinking the marker should have given you more marks, or that your work was better than someone else’s. Your appeal should be submitted to studentappeals@uclan.ac.uk, however you can still contact one of our advisors for guidance and find out more on our website. If you are uncertain why you have received a particular mark, you should contact your module tutor, year tutor or course leader for advice in the first instance as they can answer any questions about how your work was assessed.
