We’re sad to be saying an early goodbye to Katie Sandison who is moving onto an exciting opportunity in the new year. Since starting her journey as an Elected Officer back in July 2021, Katie has led, and been a part of, some amazing work.
Katie wanted to share her final thoughts with the students she was elected to represent:
“It’s been a pleasure being your Vice President Activities for the past year and a half. Thank you to every student I’ve worked with over this time to achieve amazing things. In my time in office, I’ve learnt so much and worked hard to make life better for students. My top highlights have been:
· Raising hundreds of Christmas gift donations for a domestic violence charity to support families and children over the festive period.
· Supporting taster sessions for and then helping to set up the Goalball Society.
· Creating a hardship fund to help more students get access to Club memberships.
· Getting policy passed to ensure gender neutral toilets and facilities across campus.
· Launching the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
· The mental health campaigns - including sports team mental health pledges.
It’s been an amazing year and a half, and I’m gutted to be leaving but I’m so grateful for the experience I’ve had. I could not have done it without the students who voted for me, so I’d like to say a massive thank you.
Goodbye
Quavers VP Activities”
As we say goodbye to Katie, we’d like to reassure students that the important campaigns and projects being led by Katie and the Activities Team will continue. Our Board of Trustees have been notified of this resignation and have confirmed that we will not be running an extraordinary election to fill the position of VP Activities before the next round of elections coming up in the new year. This decision has been made in accordance with section 28.1 of our Articles of Association. Our remaining Elected Officers will step in to support student activities over the next few months and ensure there is still student representation within this important strand of the Union. They will also attend any key meetings the VP Activities role usually attends to ensure continuity, and our staff team will continue working hard to provide accessible activities for students.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Katie for all of the work and dedication she has given to her role as VP Activities. You will be sorely missed and we wish you all the very best for your bright future.
