Your Students’ Union Donates

Food being donated Donations to Preston Community Hub

Over lockdown, your Students’ Union shop and the Atrium have sadly had to close for the time being. However, this has meant that we have been able to donate stock that otherwise would have gone out of date to charity foodbanks to support the local community throughout this time.

Your Students’ Union have been making donations to Salvation Army and the Foxton Centre during the lock-down period, and most recently to Preston Community Hub. We’ve been pleased to support the local community in delivering to these charities, or gathering unused food for them to collect.

Zuleikha Chikh, President of UCLan Students’ Union said:

“We know access to food has been another barrier and extra worry for our students and the community in this third lockdown. Food prices are increasing and members of our community are experiencing financial hardship for a whole range of reasons. We are pleased to have been able to contribute food to Preston Community Hub and reach out to those in need.”

If you are facing financial hardship, or struggling to afford food during this time, there are many foodbanks available for access in Lancashire. You can see our directory here.

The University also has a Fund for students experiencing financial hardship. You can find out more and apply here.
