Every year when students leave UCLan, hundreds of perfectly good household items are thrown away and end up in landfill.

The Great Donate is a new initiative from the Students’ Union to make better use of these items by saving them for new and returning students! Not only will this prevent them from ending up in landfill, but it will mean students won’t have to spend large chunks of their student loan buying new household equipment when they arrive at UCLan.

We will be collecting pots, pans, plates and more and selling them (very cheaply) to students during September Welcome Week. Any money raised from this scheme will go back into the student experience.

Now that the academic year is drawing to a close, no doubt many students will be starting to move out for the summer. Got something you can’t take with you? Why not leave it for the Great Donate!

We currently have 4 donation points;

- Inside the Students’ Union building, by the community fridge

- Douglas Residences Office

- Roeburn Residences Office

- Whitendale Residences Office

You can drop stuff off in these locations between 9am and 5pm

We’re accepting the following items, clean and in good condition:

- Pots, pans & baking trays

- Plates & bowls

- Cups, mugs & glasses

- Cutlery (Forks, butter knives, spoons, teaspoons etc)

- Other equipment & utensils (Plastic chopping boards, mixing bowls, whisks, spatulas etc)

- Stationary

- Trinkets & decor

- Non-perishable food (eg. Tins)

- Unused/unopened toiletries & hygiene products

Unfortunately we will be unable to take any of the following:

- Electrical equipment

- Bedding (E.g. pillows, blankets etc)

- Anything broken, cracked or chipped

- Sharp objects/knives (butter knives accepted)

- Wooden items

We’re not taking clothes at this time, but if you wish to donate any unwanted clothing there is a donation point near the entrance at the bottom floor of the Students’ Union building.
