This Holocaust Memorial day, we remember the millions of lives lost under Nazi persecution. Our VP Welfare, Nitam has written an article about the Holocaust and how to access support if you've been subject to discrimination
Holocaust Memorial Day, observed on January 27th, is a day to remember the millions of Jewish people and other minority groups who were murdered during the Holocaust. As a Students’ Union, it’s important we recognise and educate people on this tragic event in history
The Holocaust, which occurred during World War II, saw the systematic extermination of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime. Along with Jews, other minority groups such as homosexuals, Romani people, and individuals with disabilities were also targeted and murdered.
Additionally, it is important to acknowledge that genocide and mass atrocities are still happening around the world today. As students and as global citizens, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves and take action to end these injustices.
Holocaust Memorial Day serves as a reminder of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust, and the importance of remembering and educating about this tragic event in history. As VP Welfare, I support and advocate for all students, regardless of their background and ethnicity. I encourage all students to take part in Holocaust Memorial Day by learning about the persecution minorities faced and standing up against hate and discrimination.
If you have experienced any form of discrimination whilst being at University, or know anyone who has, the Students’ Union encourages you to speak out and contact our support services here.
