The last month has seen a number of SUL competitions come to an exciting close, with participants battling it out for glory in sports like Netball & Football!
The 11-a-side Premier Playoffs came down a Final between UCLan FC ‘A’ and last year’s ‘Treble’ winners UCLan Rovers ‘A’. After a tight 90 minutes it was 0-0 and to be decided by a Penalty Shootout. UCLan FC were victorious, allowing captain Adam Brown to lift the SUL Champions Trophy!
A ‘Shield’ Tournament was held on the same day between the teams knocked out at the Playoff Quarter Final Stage of the Premier Playoff. The final came down to ‘North End Galacticos’ (NEG) and ‘UCLan Strikers’. A late NEG penalty took it to another shootout, and UCLan Strikers held their nerve to win the Shield! It has been a successful season for the Strikers who also won the 11-a-side Conference and the 7-a-side Saturday League, also taking home a Trophy from the Semester One 5-a-side tournament.
The inaugural ‘UCLan SUL World Cup’ 5-a-side tournament took place, which saw 5-a-teams representing their Country/Region. It was, yet again, decided by a shootout as the ‘Nepali Gurkhas’ beat ‘Republic or N. Ireland’ in the final!
The Netball League finished with ‘Mix Ups’ remaining undefeated and winning the Title. Although the Netball League is now complete, open sessions and matches will continue to take place every Wednesday at Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre throughout June. Check out our Events page to sign up.
The 11-a-side football will also continue with our first ever ‘SU Summer League’. If you would like to get involved, contact Social Sports Coordinator Carl Brown at CBrown16@uclan.ac.uk or message us on Twitter @UCLanSUActivity.
