A message to our Trans* Community from Taran, Trans* Students' Rep:

It is with such regret and sadness that I am having to write this for you.

I am deeply saddened about the news and death of a beautiful young girl taken way too soon.

The real tragedy here is that Brianna is no longer here and will never get to step another step on this planet, never be able to get her GCSE’s and move on to experience the life of an adult and what freedom feels like.

The Trans Community right now feels under attack and one death is one too many. One so close to home, is just not okay.

We need to keep close and ensure that all hate is not allowed in this country, we need to ensure Trans* safety is a priority for the Government and pressure them to take our lives seriously. The Government are trying to erase us, we will not be silenced. We will not be forgotten.

We will not forget Brianna.

I am here for you all – I am happy to talk and raise any more points of contact and ensure the support is there for any student affected by recent tragedies.

The Trans Community is forever a big family, one of us is hurt we all are.

I have been hit with so much love but also anger, so please come and join me in this sadness and anger at the injustice that Brianna has now lost such a beautiful life.

We will be holding a vigil for Brianna and I want to welcome you all to come and pay your respect and gain some power from this young girl and stand in solidarity and respect for her strong and unending love for life. More information will follow.

If you need any support please reach out to me your Trans* Rep - or to the Students' Union.

Thanks,
Taran – Trans* Rep

9:36pm on 20 Feb 23 This is beautifully written, Taran and I hope you are okay. Like you say, such sad and shocking news which shows us again that we have such a long way to go to just let people be. Lovely mark of respect organising the vigil which will honor Brianna and the tragic loss of her young life. Heartbreaking.
