Today, UCLan Students’ Union President Zuleikha Chikh has written a letter to UCLan Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Baldwin, in order to express students’ growing concerns regarding rent, flexible accommodation contracts and how the University can support students in helping to mitigate the financial impact of COVID-19.

You can read the full letter here.

We understand the student frustrations on rent and now we want you to use your voice to let the University know you support the following solutions:

  1. Students in University halls and University registered halls to not be charged from the start of semester 2 until they are back in halls of residence.

  1. Allow students to be released from their contracts with University halls if they wish, without any penalties.

  1. Financial support to be made available for students who are living in private accommodation.

We've written a version of the letter for you to use. You can download the letter here and add your name to the bottom.

Then, if you are in UCLan Accommodation, email it to studentaccommodation@uclan.ac.uk

or if you are in UCLan Registered Private Accommodation, email it to privateaccommodation@uclan.ac.uk

The more students who sign and send this letter, the more impact we can create together, so be sure to tell your coursemates and friends!

We are aware that the University has pledged to apply a discount to students in their halls' next rent payment, however this does not yet meet any of our proposed solutions. We will continue to meet and discuss with the University in order to achieve a fair outcome that supports all students.
If you have any questions or concerns about accommodation, drop us a DM on social media @uclansu or email us at suinformation@uclan.ac.uk. We're here #ForYouThroughThis.
