Support if you are from Iran or Israel - A message from the University

Due to the current conflict between Israel and Iran, the travel situation across the Middle East is unpredictable, and has been changing at short notice. We wanted to share some support information, and advice about travel to and from the Middle East.

Flying to the Middle East

We are aware we have possibly have students who live in the Middle East, and would usually be planning to return home as we approach the end of term. Here is the current information that we have, regarding travel to the area:

Flights to Israel and Iran are not currently available - major carriers including Emirates, Lufthansa, Air France, United, and Delta have suspended flights to the two countries, and Israeli and Iranian airspace and main airports are closed.

The FCDO advises against all travel to Israel and Iran, and travelling against official advice is likely to invalidate your travel insurance.

Flights to other countries may be available, but airspace can be shut at very short notice, and countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Syria have at some point closed their airspace over the past few days – so you should check the latest advice, keep an eye on local media and remain vigilant if travelling.

Support for students trying to return home

Students who live in Israel or Iran and cannot return home over summer, will be offered support and are encouraged to contact wellbeing@uclan.ac.uk

Returning from the Middle East

The following advice has been provided for British nationals:

British nationals in Israel should use this form on the FCDO website to notify the government of their presence, so they can receive updates. The government is organising flights for British nationals who want to leave Israel.

British nationals in Iran should be aware that UK government support is extremely limited in Iran. The FCDO has Iran travel advice and general information about support for British national overseas on its website.
