Making friends is a great part of being at university.
Here are a few tips to help you along the way;
Don’t panic, don’t try too hard during Freshers, you have a long time to make friends.
Everyone else is feeling just like you, no matter how confident they look.
Don’t worry if you haven’t quite found your type of person yet – you will and they will be worth the wait.
Do it your way - loud, quiet, considered, enthusiastic, organiser, follower.
Don’t underestimate how lovely it is to ask if someone wants a cup of tea.
Be open to joining groups or trying new activities.
Share any cooking skills you have, you will be in great demand.
Hop online, check out course Facebook pages, SU Facebook pages, search on twitter.
If we’re honest everyone at some time has found it hard to fit in and develop friendships. Feeling a bit lost or lonely at some time at university is really common. It’s a time of major change, it may be the first time you are away from the familiar supportive family and friends. Feeling lonely and homesick is really normal. If this is getting you down and you want to talk to someone there is a range of support available through UCLan’s Student Support and Wellbeing service.
