Now that you’re enrolled onto your UCLan course, it’s time to kickstart your university adventure.

We’ve put together some top tips to help you settle in:

Plan your Freshers in advance

There’s so much to do during Freshers week and it can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know where to start! If you check out what’s on our website before you get here, you’ll be able to plan ahead and decide which activities you definitely want to go to.

Familiarise yourself with the nearest amenities

Check out the local area of the campus you’re studying at. If you’re not familiar with it, be sure to find out the nearest bus and train station and how long it will take to get onto campus. If you’re driving in, check where the car parks are and if you need a permit. It’s also handy to know the nearest supermarkets, banks and other important services you might need, especially if you’ll be moving away from home. Don’t forget, you can sign up to the UCLan Medical Centre too!

Bring a piece of home with you

For some of you, you’ll be moving away from home and uprooting your life. As exciting as starting a new chapter might be, sometimes you might miss your home comforts. Why not bring some mementos with you to put in your student accommodation? It could be photos, a family recipe you can make or even creating a playlist with songs that remind you of home.

Reach out to other students before you get here

Freshers doesn’t have to start at Freshers when you can download the Umii App and meet other students before you get here! Umii is available on your app store and once register using your UCLan email address, you’ll be able to set up your profile. Once you list all of the things you’re interested in, as well as what course you’re studying, the app will then match you with students similar to you and you can get chatting online!

Plan a weekly budget

It can be tempting to get over excited when your student finance lands in your account. However, budgeting your finances can be a really helpful way to save money and make it last. Loads of the Union’s events are free to attend and there’ll be tonnes of freebies at the Freshers Fair so be sure to check out all of the stalls and see what’s on offer.
