The theme of this year's Pride is – Pride: Past, Present, and Future.

Past will acknowledge the struggle to decriminalise, section 28, Stonewall and Pride as a protest. Present will highlight the current fight for Trans* rights, and future will surround campaigning for change, being allies to Trans Students and creating a safe and inclusive campus.

Although we have come far from when being gay was classed as a criminal act, from when age of acceptability of gay sex was put forth at 21 in 1967 – we still have a way to go. The LGBTQ+ community are still facing struggles whether this be in their homes, at their schools, workplace, or social settings – we as a community need to create a space where they can be unapologetically themselves. Barriers need to be removed and individuality accepted as no person is the same and it’s about time we stop trying to fit people into the box that society likes to call ‘normal’.

As we celebrate Pride, we acknowledge the activists that fought for change and those that are still fighting for change till this day.

Join us in the Students' Union building from 11am on Tuesday 22nd February for our day of Pride. You can find out all that's happening by checking out the event on the website here.

As Marsha P Johnson said: There is “no pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.”
