The 16 days of activism against gender-based violence is an international campaign that runs from the 25th of November up until the 10th of December. This is an annual campaign that was first created by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and has been continued since by the Center of Women’s Global Leadership.

This campaign is important because it calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. Unfortunately, we are not yet at the point where women and girls around the world are treated with respect and with dignity and until the perpetrators of crimes against women are sufficiently held accountable each and every time then this will not change.

Together we need to fight for a better and fairer world where ALL women – cis, trans, LGBTQ+ are able to live without fear of attack and/or mistreatment due to their gender. And most importantly this is something that affects us all, not only those who identify as women and as a society we can gain and change so much more as a collective. So let’s join together to end violence against women.
