On Friday 25th February we saw UCLan Students' Union first Intramural Basketball fixture in recent History as ‘UCLan Medics Basketball’ took on ‘UCLan Chinese Basketball’.
The Medics affiliated to the Students' Union earlier this year to provide opportunities for students whos medical courses may prevent them from joining the UCLan Basketball Club. They host a regular Friday social session where anyone can go and play between 5-6pm.
After several weeks of playing together they decided to take it to the next level and start playing friendlies. A game with a group of our Chinese students who play together regularly was arranged by our Social Sports Coordinator, Carl Brown.
The teams played two short format games, which the UCLan Chinese Basketball Team won 21-5 and 17-10.
Medics Basketball Chair Aslah Asif said “A big thank you and congrats to the UCLan Chinese Basketball Team for having the matches with us. It was very intense!”
We hope to expand upon this success and set up a Student Union League for Basketball.
