Students' Union's only exist because students decided to get involved - and doing something other than their studies. Back in 1957, the Harris Students Association was created as part of the Harris Institute (as UCLan was known back then), and students created a place and an identity for themselves.
This spirit is carried through to today, and behind all the eating, drinking and shopping there is a whole range of activities that go on and make the Students' Union the dynamic and diverse organisation that is.
From the battles on the sports pitches against rival universities, to the 40 odd socieities covering nearly every interest to the pace and passion of the student media - there will be something for you to get involved in.
The Student Involvement & Development (SID) team are there to help students realise their potential and provide the resources for new projects to be created and interests to be explored.
The Give It A Go programme allows students to pay a small amount and then pick and choose from a range of different taster sessions, and then commit to joining a specific club or society.
The SID team are also setting up a whole host of volunteering opportunities, to get students more involved with the local community and also enhance their CV.
The Student Involvement and Development Centre (SID Centre) is based in the Students’ Union Hub area next door to the Advice Centre and opposite The Bridge. We offer administrative support to all Students’ Union clubs, societies and volunteer projects and provide opportunities for personal development and training to help you gain transferable skills to put onto your CV.
If you want to get involved in a club, society or volunteering project or you would like some help and advice with setting up a new student group then the SID Centre is the place to come.
You can sign up to join a student group at any time, so if you’ve missed the Clubs and Societies fair don’t despair, just pop into the office and we can put you in contact with the group that you would like to join.
