How the SU works
Every UCLan student is automatically a member of the Students' Union.
The most important thing about the Students’ Union is that it is here to represent you. Run by students for students, every important decision we make is made or influenced by students.
On a day to day basis the Students’ Union is run by elected student officers (The Exec) supported by a team of permanent staff.
The Exec is voted in annually by students and consists of six full time sabbatical officers and three part time non-sabbatical officers.You can find further information about his year's Exec in “Meet the Exec”.
The Students' Union has a guide to how it is run called the constitution. This is a legal document and all members and staff must abide by it.
The sovereign body of the Students' Union is the Student Council. The Council meets every month and is responsible for ensuring that the Students' Union abides by its constitution and holds the elected officers accountable for their work.
An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held once a year and provides the opportunity for any student to attend and vote on Students' Union policies. This means that you make the decisions. All lectures are cancelled for the afternoon so that students can attend the meeting.
An active Student Union (SU) is a vital component of your university life - you will use it all the time, even though you may not realise it.
