Union to run art house cinema

Mitchell & Kenyon cinema to be run by students
The Mitchell & Kenyon cinema is to be taken over by the Students’ Union.
The Union will oversee the management, programming and promotion of the art house cinema based in Foster Building.
The Union’s film society will be part of the team that runs the cinema, and they have already put together a packed schedule for 2009/2010.
Lyndsey Carter, chairperson of the film society, said: “I spoke with the team and we’re all really excited to see the society taking off and being given this opportunity.
“It’s great that we’re going to be involved in running the Mitchell & Kenyon cinema, we hope to put on some really interesting films.”
The Mitchell & Kenyon cinema aims to show independent and thought provoking films and is open to students and the public. It has recently shown films as part of Preston City Council’s D.vercity event, showing films made by producers with learning disability.
