Union backs Preston Skyrides

The Union's Activities and participation officer, Tom Bailey, is calling on students to get cycling as part of Preston's Skyrides.

The initative, led by Preston City Council with Sky and British Cycling, will see various routes available across the city and surrounding countryside until Sunday 8th November 2009.

Bailey said: "The Skyride is a great way of bringing people from all backgrounds together, it encourages healthy living, a green way of travel and a chance for the people and students who live in Preston to get involved with a great activity that they might not otherwise engage with.

"Community bridges will also be built if students are seen to get involved with the events that are being put on throughout the city. It makes sense for students to ride into a healthy, greener way of participating and getting involved."

Bikes are not provided as part of the Skyride, but the rides are all led by trained instructors and take in Preston's rivers, urban landscapes and surrounding countryside.

The events include the Broadgate Bridge Bash, Tickled Trout Trail and a tour out towards Inglewhite and Broughton.
