Abseiling is becoming a regular feature of Give It A Go

Liam East and Lucy Spaven braved the heights to see how students got on during a charity abseil as part of Give It A Go.

On a beautiful sunny day in Preston what better way to spend the day than a spot of abseiling... down the side of Harris building.

Students were giving it a go this time for the charity Help the Aged. Those taking part in the challenge had to pluck up the courage to throw themselves off and shimmy themselves down.

Louis Khoury, 22, mastering in DNA profiling was a natural.

He said: "I’ve done it three or fiour times before and the more I abseil the more I like it."

Louis also expressed how he felt about Give it a Go: "I think putting on all these events is great, I just wish they would do it more often; I would recommend it to anyone."

We caught up with Louis after he flew down the side of the building: "Every time I do it I get a great rush, things can often get a bit repetitive but with things like this do makes life more exciting."

Lisa Chiu, 21, an international studies student was a little more nervous about the event.

She said: "I’ve never had the chance to take part in anything like this so I’m very scared."

After clambering down the wall Lisa explained how difficult the event was: "Everybody makes it look so easy, it requires a lot of strength and also skill, even still I enjoyed myself a lot."

Give It A Go fortnight is a chance for UCLan students to try something new and different. It's no strings attached, you can just pay and play.
