Chance to get involved in student radio

The Union’s student radio station, Frequency, has launched its brand new website.

The website allows students to see who is on air right now, find out more about the station and see events that the station is holding.

Union media officer, John Crossley, said: "The station has been without it’s own website for over a year, and I felt that in order to develop the station further a strong online presence is what we needed.

"The new website also integrates the station’s social media feeds, and news feeds from the 53 Degrees and pluto-online websites.

"The site will allow each show on Frequency to have their own individual show page, which they can then link to their own social networking pages on Facebook and Twitter.

"On top of that the site gives us a great platform to help promote Frequency Live: our club night."

The Union’s radio station will be broadcasting from mid-October and any students wanting to get involved in student radio can visit the station’s get involved page to find out more.

The Union is proud of its student media, with fortnightly student newspaper Pluto and sister news website pluto-online, Frequency broadcasting live online and new start-up internet TV station, PSTV. They all offer students the opportunity to gain experience in journalism, media, media production and other areas such as event management and promotion.

“I’m hoping that the site is going to give us a professional edge, which will then get us noticed by students at UCLan, as well as other student radio stations around the country. The launch of this site heralds an exciting year ahead for the station, as well as the rest of student media here in the union”.

Former student media volunteers at UCLan have gone on to work for The Sun, BBC, Daily Express and other regional and local media organisations.

The website has been developed using the Wordpress blogging and content management platform, and was developed by Preston-based design agency Prettier Pixels.
