mitchell & kenyon cinema

Mitchell & Kenyon cinema is based within the University of Central Lancashire and is run by the Students' Union and the Union's Film Society.

It's Preston's only independent cinema and hosts themed screenings and shows independent and arthouse films.

In October 2009 we showcased the UCLan International Film Festival. Bringing together films from around the world to give students, staff and the public a flavour of something different on the big screen.

Film shown as part of the festival included: Zatoichi, Anche Libero Va Bene, Die Welle, Omaret Yakobean, Xiao Cai Feng, El Bonaerense and Etre et Avoir

Booking Information

If you would like to use the Mitchell and Kenyon cinema to screen a film, the following information will help you in the organisation and costing of your event.

Times & Dates

The Mitchell and Kenyon cinema is available for bookings between the following times during term-time:

5pm - 10pm Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays
3pm - 10pm Tuesdays
2pm - 10pm Fridays
9am - 10pm Saturdays and Sundays

Please Note

The Students' Union Film Society provides Projectionist and Box Office support during term-time. Due to the nature of the academic year and student availability, we cannot always guarantee that bookings can be accepted when support is not available.

The cinema is very popular, and we advise you if you are considering booking a screening to provide as much notice as you can to have the best chance of booking the dates you require.

Costs (Per screening)

Two Projectionist Assistants @ £6.51 per hour x 5 hours per night (includes set up and take down time) = £65.10
Box Office Assistant* @ £6.51 per hour x 1.5 hour per night = £9.77
Plus 10% Administration Fee on the TOTAL amount of Projectionist & Box Office assistant time (for instance on 1 screening this would be £7.49 for two screenings £14.98 etc.)
There is also VAT on the total amount of staff time and admin currently charged at 15% but this will rise to 17.5% in January.

* Only for screenings where you will be charging admission

Other considerations

Film Rights - you will need to source the rights to screen the film you wish to show from the film's distributor. This is usually priced between £80 - £120 and excludes VAT. You will need to provide evidence that you have secured the rights prior to the film screening.
If you wish to screen something that you or your students have produced, you will need to approach Preston City Council's licensing department and request that they provide a license and rating for your footage.

Sourcing Rights:

1) To find out who holds the rights to your film try the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com/) - type the film in the search engine and scroll down to the 'company' bit, then contact them.

2) and/ or put the title into the filmbank single title database: http://www.filmbank.co.uk/default.asp?page=article&id=45215§ion=single&subsection=home
