Societies

Societies

If you have a passion for a hobby, subject, political or religious interest, societies can provide opportunities to meet people with similar interests to share your ideas and express yourself.  UCLan SU has a wide variety of societies and the list is constantly changing and growing with new students bringing new ideas.

Societies are supported by the Union but operated and led by students themselves. They provide brilliant platforms for you to have fun while studying here, but they can provide other benefits that live on long after you have left UCLan.

Our groups are very diverse and open to all students to join by following the Click Here link below. Prices vary between free - £5 depending upon the nature of the group, and the costs involved are often minimal if anything at all.

Start a New Society!

Each year we affiliate new societies, if you would like to start one up we are happy to provide you with advice and support on how to do this.

Read through the Society Affiliation Information Pack (here), and complete the Society Affiliation Form (here) today! All affiliated societies must be open to any student to join – see our Diversity Statement for details.

All society submissions should be directed to suopportunities@uclan.ac.uk, who will also be able to help you answer any questions. Or you can pop into the SU Opportunities Centre and speak to a member of staff directly.

Grants for Societies

We offer small grants towards some of the costs involved in running a society which can help with occasional expenses or purchasing items which would help your society.   The Grant Awards Criteria for societies here outlines what can and cannot be applied for and the application process itself.

Go Global Grants - we also offer development grants to societies looking to encourage more international students to become involved in their activities. You can find the application form here.

Open Grants

We also offer a small grant pot called Inspired Ideas which is open to individual students or student societies with an idea they’d like to turn into an event or activity open to all students. Each year we’ve helped fund around 10 to 12 one-off events run by students. Ideas have included a Carol Concert, a Mead Tasting, a UCLan’s Got Talent, a Student Bingo, a Greek Night, a Recycled Fashion event etc. The maximum award is £100. For short application form please go here.
