The Rules
The Union a Registered Charity Number 1142616 and a Company Limited by Guarantee No. 7623917. The union is governed by rules called the Articles of Government and by Byelaws approved by students, trustees and the University. The powers of the union, the Union’s objectives and the roles of the Board of Trustees , Student representatives and the Students’ Council all play a role are described in this document.
Every student that registers as a student at the University is automatically a member of the Union unless they choose to opt out. The right is afforded to all students by the terms of the 1994 Education Act. To ensure that the Union complies with this act of parliament we follow the terms of a Code of Practice agreed by the Board of the University.
The Union is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS) and participates in the activities of NUS Services Limited and British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS).
